Dr. Mike Mossler:
Dr. Mossler had his beginnings in Stevens Point, Wis. His parents lived in a tiny town, Scandinavia, which is nearby. Dr. Mossler's father, Arnie, was a 'newspaper man' – an editorial cartoonist by day and, at night, an accomplished jazz trumpeter in many Dixieland jazz groups from Chicago to New York to the Tampa Bay area. Dr. Mossler came to Florida via Glen Cove, Long Island, NY and grew up in St. Petersburg where he attended Boca Ciega High School and St. Petersburg Junior College before attending the University of Florida. After UF, Dr. Mossler was admitted to and graduated from the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Mossler interned at Bayshore Animal Hospital (BAH) under the guidance of Dr. H.A. Stevens and was offered a job after he graduated – and is still here – thank goodness(!) – having grown the practice from only a canine/feline practice to a practice that also includes avian, exotics and wildlife. In Dr. Mossler's infrequent time off he is an avid sportsman with a special interest in fishing. Dr. Mossler is married and has two sons, Sam, a 'struggling' actor, and Mickey, who is in Student Affairs at IMG, both of whom he is crazy about. Doc Mike also has 4 Yellow Labs, a Jack Russell, a cat, two African Greys and the Star of the Show at BAH: DOK, the Hyacinth Macaw, who graces the animal hospital with his presence!
Dr. Leann Tana: Dr. Tana grew up in Alaska! How’s that for a contrast? After graduating from Robert Service High School in Anchorage she attended and graduated with a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from Oregon State University and then attended and graduated magna cum laude from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. While at Kansas State, Dr. Tana did exotic animal rotations at the University of Florida and the San Antonio Zoo. Dr. Tana's husband, Dr. Chris Tana, is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and has recently returned from a tour with the U.S. Air Force in Afghanistan. In Dr. Tana's spare time, she is an avid work-out enthusiast and relaxes by keeping current on good movies. Boomer, Dr. Tana's dog… we don't know for sure what breed he is but he's excited(!)… keeps her busy with walks and runs at the dog park! Dr. Tana is such a wonderful, caring and talented addition to our professional staff and has become an integral part in the treatment of our avian, exotic and wildlife patients…boy(!), are we glad to have had her join us!
Dr. Elizabeth Mann: Dr. Mann spent her childhood in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan running around in creeks and forests with her sister and brother. She wanted to be an "animal doctor" since she was 5 years old - that's quite a commitment for a person to make at such a young age! We're glad she stuck to it! Dr. Mann attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and received her B.S. in Biology. Then, after 21 years in the Midwest, Dr. Mann was ready for some heat and sunshine ... so she moved to Los Angeles, California and spent some time caring for the horses of the rich and famous ... and learning to surf! After spending this time being a California Girl, Dr. Mann headed to the Bayou State, Louisiana, to attended Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge. In vet school Dr. Mann's passion for caring for companion animals was realized. She excelled academically and was active in the student body at LSU, serving as class president. Outside of school Dr. Mann became a true southerner as she found a love for crawfish & bread pudding and soon found that the wonderful southern charm had tied into her Wolverine personality! Luckily, Dr. Mann eventually made her way to Florida where she enjoys our sunshine and water, competes in a soccer league, plays guitar and spends time with her cats, Yum Yum and Gator and her special little dog, Buddy and her sweet new German Shepherd puppy, Hector. We are thrilled that she is here with us!
We are saddened to inform our clients of the passing of Dr. Jim Beamer in January 2009.
